acts weird from R to D!!!

hello, my truck in the morning when i go to leave does something differnt. i will back out of my drive way and when i go from "reverse" to "drive" it takes a little while to kick in . sometimes i even have to tap on the go pedal a bit to get it to kick in. i recently just replaced my gov. press. sensor/solonoid and ever since its been doin this. but it's only in the mornin when i start out from a cold night. i was wondering if maybe my bands need adjusted or something of that nature. wondering if anyone could help me out.

thank you all in advance

i think the tc is loosing prime. while overnight the tc is draining out.may or maynot be the case but adjusting the bands wont cost u much in time and new fluid if u do it yourself. Have u checked the fluid level ?.....try adding a bottle of lubegard red...

TC drainback. It takes longer to recharge the TC. Cold weather seems to aggrevate it. Let it idle in neutral for about 30 seconds, then try it.

After refilling the trans Post-service, it's normal to have the system "burp" up an air bubble within a couple of days causing the fluid level to be low.

Check the level.

Yup! Your symptoms sound like low fluid level.
Remember (only on Dodges) .... ck fluid when warm and running, in neutral, after setting parking brake and running through the gears - Low...Drive...neutral.
Checking with engine off will read higher than true.

Check fluid level 1st, that's usually the problem, especially since it started after you had refilled it, and use ATF+4 only. With stock converter there is some noticeable lag time between engagement(especially if lots of miles on it), as compared to a built aftermarket one. Did you adjust bands, or change filter while you were in there?, as even a plugged filter can cause this delay.

Ol Rastus did that the 6 years I owned it. I put it into neutral as soon as the engine started then after 4 or 5 seconds, the engine oil pressure got up, I drove off no problem.

ok everyone i did check the fluid level and it was low it took a quart and brought it back up to normal. i did not adjust the bands as i was told not since i do nothing too "heavy duty" at the moment but you all think i still need to or wait til next time? and another thing is i read on here that a lot of people use ATF+3 and no probs but "TORQUE" said to use ATF+4 "ONLY" is it that big a deal right now or should i do it ASAP? just wonderin

thanks yall

P.S. also CLUNK i was wonderin how many miles your 6yr old truck had on it and did you ever have any probs or did everything work A OK.

If it shifts fine now, then you can probably leave it, although it can be hard to tell if it needs adjustment, if you haven't done or felt the difference adjusting bands can make. Your year calls for ATF+4(synthetic) or equivalent only, but if it was only 1 quart that you added, don't worry about it. Did getting fluid up to proper level help at all with the problem? If not you'll have to look further as suggested.

Ol' Rustus was a '92 I drove from '98 to '04. The only problem I had was the steering coupler...I had to rebuild it every coupla years. The clearcoat on the top of the cab and hood lifted but I fixed it with color sanding and re-clear at home...looked good at 50 ft.
Had to replace the master cylinder and brake booster...all small taters really.
Only had 141K when I traded for Cornbread Red. Pics in my gallery.

yes torque, adding the fluid helped tremendously. it is now fixed, that was just my problem. i believe i will wait a lil while (like for warmer weather) to adjust my bands but it shifts well now and no more stalling, even in the morning, and clunk, im glad to hear it had over 100K thats what i was wondering. mine only has about 54K now so i have a while yet til anything else happens. hopefully!

thanks guys for the help

If it's shifting well and your only at 54,000 miles, I would wait.
My personal expirience, with a previous stock auto Dodge, is that adjusting the bands is somewhat over emphasized. "If it ain't broke...don't fix it"
JMO.

If it's shifting fine now, at your mileage, I would also leave it alone for now. You may want to install a shift kit(very inexpensive), while tranny is fairly low on miles. This will help with tranny shifting, and lockup, and make it last longer, especially if you tow.
