Is the 53 block worth it?

Ok I have a chance to get a 2000 4x4 auto with 190,000miles on it I went and checked it today and it does have the 53 block in it but no cracks, and I went on a test drive and I couldn't get the truck to over heat. The catch is that the guy wants $7,500 for the truck. I checked all the fluids and they looked good the only thing i didn't check when I was there was the computer to see if any codes were there (but it does look like it has a new vp44?)....I am new to the 2nd gen dodges and I know about the 53 block cracking issues(my dad had an 01 that cracked at 250,000 miles of hard labor)Is the price of the truck right for having a 53 block in it? If the block does crack on me how much does a reman. short block cost? sorry for a long post I just don't know anything, Im a 3rd gen owner and the guys over there have always steered me in the right direction....thanks, Justin

I'd say if its got that many miles on it chances are you will be fine.

I have 194,000 miles on my 53 block no issues yet.

However I am looking to build a motor and will replace the 53 just because I don't want to have any issues later on after I get done dumping a bunch of money into the build.

yeah the truck is so clean too the tranny shifts good(looks like it has been rebuilt) does need some front end work though steering is kindof loose, but all in all I think its a good deal.....

I love my 53 block has never done bad and i have like 197k so it is just the luck and let the engine warm up before pulling a big load.

I'm looking at it again today.....they are going to let me drive it around for an hour so I'm going to take it to a buddy that has a star scan tool thing and run a complete check up on the truck to see if any thing is bad....if the ip is bad I'm going to offer the guy $6k.....

I have no cracks and I have 246,000 miles. The last 146,000 have been with added power.
