5-spd or 6-spd??
I've driven a 5spd and a 6spd. The 5spd shifts smoother (ie faster). The 6spd is notchy, it's a HD truck tranny and it shifts like one.
I don't tow heavy or often >5000 2-3 times a month and the 5spd does great. For hot rodders, the 5spd is great, for working trucks, go with the 6spd.

Fueling around nailed it - they were first introduced in 99 and the input shaft was only 1.25" rather than the 1.5" shaft on the 01 H.O. trucks.

Close...in 01 they switched to a 1.375" shaft from the 1.25"!!
