transmission 5 spd to 6 spd
transmission 5 spd to 6 spd
I have a 1999 Ram 2500 diesel with a 5 speed trans. A friend has offered me a 6 speed trans from a 2006 Ram 2500 diesel. Will this fit? Any computer imputs to change? Any help
Your truck is considerably newer than the mechanical stuff the first gen forum deals with. Try posting your question in the second gen forum.
Eather of the 6spds Dodge used is longer than your 5 spd. So drive shaft work will be needed. The 6spd will have a larger input shaft. If your trans has the small input. Your going to need to upgrade the clutch for the larger input. The trans cross member will need moved back some.
You didn't say if your is $X$ so I won't cover that. But I will say that a G56, 6 spd trans the 4x4 and 2wd is the same trans. The 2wd just has a drive flange on it. That is held in with a bolt. Remove the flange and its 4x4 ready. Its a 29 spline output shaft.
If that 06 trans is a G56. Your clutch will not work. For a single disk clutch on a G56. It takes what is called a conversion flywheel. There is a raised area on the back side of the flywheel. That rasied area is about 3/4" tall. It moves the clutch deeper into the trans bell to make up for the depth of the dual mass trash clutch.
If the trans is a 5600 your clutch will work.

5spd to 6 spd trans
Thanks for the input. Just sounds like its going to be a pain in the butt to do. Would loved to have it a take out and put in with a new clutch. My dream. But Im not into that much switch and modifications.
