46RE help?

Sorry, not diesel related, but, wasn't sure where else to ask for help...
I bought a '00 Ram 1500 4x4 318 auto last week & ended up having to put a trans in it. I used a trans I had out of a '96 2500 4x4 360 as everything was the same & I know the '96 trans was good. I used the '96 torque converter & 360 flexplate also.
I filled it with ATF+4 & also a bottle of Lucas (the conditioner I think), new filter, pan gasket, etc.
Fluid level is good.
Problem (I think) is it won't shift into OD or lock up...not sure which...UNTIL I drive it for about 10 minutes.
Example, @ 50 mph when it won't shift, I'll be @ about 2200 RPMs, later when it does shift, I'll be at 50mph but at about 1300 RPMs...like it should be.
I've test driven it 2 different times & it's done this, almost like clockwork both times...doesn't shift right...drive it 7-8 miles / 10 minutes, then it's fine?
Not sure what to replace / look for? I thought maybe the solenoids in the trans, but not sure?

There was a change in the thermister ( located in the governor pressure sensor ) in 2000. You can't just change the sensor I believe, but you can change the whole thing. This tells you what temperature the trans fluid is and will affect OD engage.

If you do a search here, I think there was a thread on what resistive value the newer one was looking for, 2K ohms versus 1K ohms for the older one?

Worst case scenario you might have to change the sensor and harness.

Great info, thank you!
I do have the old trans (band anchor came off). Fluid was dark but not burnt in the old one... guess I "could" switch over the governor pressure sensor / whatever else from the old one. Would like to go with new parts to rule out any problems though. Saves dropping the pan again...but...hmmm...

The bottom 2 links are the 2 parts you would need, about 130 bucks.

There are many places that sell the same parts, even Autozone should be able to get the, for you, I just happen to know and use that place for my parts.

I went ahead & used my old ones for the heck of it... it is a slug taking off & I got the P1762 code (governor pressure sensor). So I guess that one is bad. Otherwise it shifts great!
Glad I got the re-useable pan gasket
Thanks for the help, patdaly
