4.10 gear swap question

My signature details my truck but I have a problem, Just put in the lift and went to 35 in tires. After the swap I noticed a definate reduction of acceleration power, and my rpms seem too low.
I would normally drive up grades and hills in overdrive with light load and would use mininum boost, but now I have to take it out of overdrive. Why well my tach is showing about 1100 to 1200 rpm at 60mph which is bulk of my driving and about 1400-1500 at 70mph. Which I noted my pyro temps going higher and using more boost because it seems like I am almost lugging the truck along, which now I have lost some fuel mileage. also 70 is the top speed I go even on long trips and 65 when towing travel trailer,

so I am thinking of swapping to 4.10 from the 3.54s. Anyone else have this set up Auto with 35 tires and 4.10's what pros and cons

Anyone have a good set of 4.10 gears (dana 70 rear, 60 front) they would swap or sell cheap, let me know.

Any input appreciated

i love my 4:10's and if you arn't going any faster then 65-70 i know at that speed i pull 16-18mpg but i have a 12v

ps if you pull at all wiht that lift and an auto trans 4:10's will make it feel like theres nothing there or that you could pull a house right off its foundation

By changing those gears to 4.10's its like putting the truck back to stock, definetly recommend the swap. RPM's will correct themselves, power off the line will be back...

i used a gearing calculator online and with 4:10 and 35" tires you get a 3:55 ratio. which yes, would get you back to stock. i have a 4:10 and im goin up to a 35 to lower the rpm's a bit

Figure $250 an axle and up, depending on if you rebearing, need a new carrier, etc. With a Dana 70 rear or a 60 front, you won't need a new carrier. For an 80 rear you will.

For parts cost, check www.ringpinion.com

You have a Dana 80 if it's 2500/3500 and a manual tranny.

YFZ450Guy I appreciate the offer, I take it you know how to set up gears. I have a good friend that owns a mechanic shop and he should be willing to assist me along with the swap. I was over there last week watching him do a chevy gear swap. I have a basic knowledge but would need someone looking over my shoulder this first time..If he doesnt come thru I will let you know.

To Aosipower I am located near Port Townsend, Wa but I may have a line on a set of gears out of another dodge p/u. Someone emailed me earlier. Nothing is concrete yet though. As soon as I take mine out I will be looking to sell my gear set.

Definitely seems like I am on the right track to do the swap. Thanks for the replies, its a green light for me. Just need to locate the gears, I am on a tight budget but I want it done within the next month....

Mr Diesel,
Did you get your gears swapped out yet? What do you think? I'm doing mine next weekend due to 3.5s, Auto Trans & 33.5" tires (295s)...Come on 4.10s!

I am going to get my 4.10's swapped out for 3.55's

The price to do both axels is 1750. That is a local, well known shop doing the work.

I just today 6-29 worked on them, I must say my first ring and pinion job. Wow it is some work. I spent 8 hrs and didnt finish, Gears are in and set up finally but I need to put front axle in, fill diffs and put drivelines back on etc etc. definately need a well stocked shop with tools for this type of job but doing myself has saved bunch of money.......

I will finish tomorrow as I will be done, cant wait to drive it and see how different it is, I will post and let ya know how it worked for me.

I had some people ask before about my 3.54s and selling them, let me know PM if still interested......
