2002 no start, IP?

Ok, on my second of buddys diesels, 2002, 128K, no start, first thing was P0216, and no lift pump, the truck had been run out of fuel several times ( can't get thru to him not to run it out.... )

In any instance, diagnosed no LP, and looking thru the book, says P0216 isn't always a death sign for the IP.

Got a LP, and then found some IDIOT had changed it to the in tank pump....... Oh well, drop the tank, change module, put lift pump back where Cummins intended it ( Anybody want the remaining devils spawn parts? ). I have tons of fuel at the IP now, but ZERO will come out at the injector, the codes have not returned either.

Is she dead for sure, or what can a hack 12V guy do to try and breathe life into her?

I would have thought the P0216 would have returned if the IP was bad.....

Thanks in advance for any help.

Take the air intake tube loose and number one injector then shoot some ether in the intake while cranking and see it it will start. Tighten the injector back up after a few seconds.

Not saying this will work but it did for me. Don't forget to put the intake tube back together.

If there's no fuel after the IP the chances are it is dead. If he's been running with no fuel pressure and has run it out of fuel several times...there has been some stress on the IP. You can try cracking some of the injector lines...but seeing as you mention that there is no fuel out of the injector pump...it seem you may have done this.

Also it sometimes takes a while to bleed out all of the air...

I don't recommend using ether...but that is just me.

Don, man do I owe you several CASES of Beer!

I won't use Ether, but I do run gassers on flammable brake cleaner all the time.

Took less than 15 seconds of run time, and it ran pretty good considering the fuel, no objectionable knocking, etc......

She is ALIVE!

God is this forum GREAT or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

I'm glad it worked for you! I learned that trick from an old trucker friend. I'll pass your thanks on to him. But I'll drink his share of the beer! LOL!
