I am looking at a 2001 HO (6spd) 4x4 SLT Quad Cab short box truck and giving serious consideration to purchasing the truck. Any advice and suggestions as to what to look for as far as the most common problems. The truck is completely stock. Oil and filters have been changed regularly. Overall the truck appears to be in good condition and runs well.<br>---<br>Al

The most common problem with the 6 speed has been the grind going to third. Mine has never had the grind but on a cold morning I can feel it going in as the gears mesh. At 74K mine is still going strong, uses no oil (other than the normal blow by), no clutch slippage. I replaced the lift pump cause I wanted to. Same for the IAT sensor. IMHO the 01 HO is a great truck. I looked at the 03s but I'm staying with my 01.

Again, ;D have the lift pump checked,its the most important thing to help tell you about the life the VP-44 might have had.

I am assuming it has 4:10 gears. If you do a lot of traffic driving you will hate the manual. I did and switched to the auto.

Buuuuttt.... If you do ANY towing, you will not mind the left leg exercise in traffic.<br>Std. trans. is all that and more for towing.<br>Been both ways, I have a right to speak. <br>To each their own.<br>Currently ETH/DEE w/4:10 in near Seattle traffic. I'm ;D ;D

It is a 6 spd and my present truck is a 5 spd - I don't mind rowing. ;D
