2001 automatic shifting problems

I have a 2001 4x4 with automatic transmission with the plate on the side for a gearbox that is starting to develop some shifting problems and I hope someone has some good ideas for me. When I pull away from a stop light especially if I am turning to the left it acts like it is not in gear for a moment or two and then everything is fine. I drive the truck pretty gently especially since fuel prices have approached four bucks a gallon. The truck is bone stock and has around 135,000 miles on it. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

ATF is low.

Add a quart and it'll be fine. I am guessing as it's slipping. Check fluid hot in neutral on level ground and use the backside of the stick for the measurement. The front is not accurate.

If it only happens when cold, you are probably down half a quart.

Thanks. This happens about five blocks from where I work. Have been pulling a trailer some in the evening and have not noticed any problems then.

It did for a few days and I am needing to add fluid again so I have a leak somewhere. Weather we are having right now is not condusive to checking to see where the problem is.
