im looking at a 2001 2500 cummins 24 valve and when its cold out the truck wont go over 1500 rpm and will only do 30mph until it warms up then its fine. it has an auto tranny with 190000 on it but it still shifts strong. anybody got any ideas

 

Probably the VP-44, need to check for codes.

 

x2 check the codes

 

x3 pull codes, if you get a 0216, your vp is wore out, and edventually will require replacement, also test fuel pressure, more than likely your liftpump has failed and has taken out your VP.....this is purely a guess
