2 trucks both broke
2 trucks both broke
my wife went to the vets office and called me said truck won't start so when I get there she said the rpms gauge quit working so I put it on the trailer and started home and stop and got a crank shift poistion sencer the closer I was getting home the hard it was to change gears 5 mile from home it POPED its runs but that it you can go thought the gears but you wont go any where so fix the one on the trailer and swip trucks not so easy when I pulled the CSPS OUT the end had been graund down so dose the mean that my crank shift as move ? and whats wrong with my tranny?
I have heard of crank position sensors on that year of truck with physical damage on the end of the sensor. There is a tone wheel for the sensor that is bolted to the crankshaft, and occasionally they can come loose. Oil pan removal is required for access.
Not sure about the other truck, but have you tried shifting the transfer case through all the ranges? It may be the problem and not the transmission. (assuming it is 4 wheel drive.)

The ground down end on the Crank Position Sensor probably indicates the screws have come loose holding the tone wheel to the crankshaft allowing it to spin out under centrifical force and hit the end of the sensor.
I had the same thing happen to my '99 this past summer.
The oil pan has to be dropped in order to remove the screws, add a drop of loc-tite to the screws (which the flippin' FACTORY should have done
) before reinstalling the screws, reinstalling the oil pan and replacing the sensor.
You can either pull the transmission to slide the pan off to the rear, or some have stated they loosened the motor mounts and jacked the engine up to get enough clearance to get the pan off.
Or do like I did................take it to the dealer and let THEM take care of it.......for around $1,200.
I'm getting too old for that big of a job.
