2 cycle time

Hello to all...I know there are numerous threads on here about the pros/cons of fuel additives. I'd like to add my two cents to the mix and maybe prevent some misery for some of you. I bought my truck with 62,000 miles on the clock and the VP 44 had just been replaced by the dealer at 59,000 miles (reason for trade in). After reading the wealth of knowledge available on this forum regarding the fuel systems on these trucks, I immediately had the lift pump tested. It was weak, so I had a cummins mechanic replace it and install a low fuel pressure warning light. That was done at 63,000 miles.

Fast forward.

My truck now has 130,000 miles showing, and they are easy driven highway miles. The only additive I have ever put in the fuel was Winter Guard, and only in the winter months, every other tank or so.

Pulled the truck out of my garage this past weekend, and it immediately started a rough idle so I shut it down. Would not restart. Had it towed to a local diesel garage and the VP 44 is shot. No warning from low pressure guage, no dead pedal or hard starting issues, just plain dead. I had my first catastrophic fuel system failure.

I am stunned that such an expensive pump would fail after so short a time period, and I now believe for certain that the government's ULSD fuel is garbage. When I get the truck back this week, it will get its first dose of 2 cycle oil (TCW 3, thanks guys). I might even paste a picture of Al (the Earth has a fever) Gore on the quart bottle I will keep it in behind the seat. My two cents.......no wait, that's my two thousand seventeen dollars worth. Keep the info coming all, this is an amazing forum.

Yup, I'm running 2 cycle plus dsg additive (really reduces the hammering knock also). She blows a little blue at idle warming up, I like to think I sending smoke signals to Al Gore saying "hi"...

Just have to check the pump, think my local gas station uses up to B20 and is ULSD. Was wondering the same thing...
