Usually, not going into 2nd.... or 3rd when it should indicates a bad Governor Pressure Solenoid.... or the Transducer (pressure sensor).
Can also refuse to downshift into 1st at a stop.... and several other strange variations.
Sometimes hard to tell which so worth changing both if they are original.

I've not seen the slipping you mention...??

Easy DIY R&R after dropping the pan.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Likely that KD band badly out of adjustment. When was last serviced? What is condition of fluid?? If threads do not protude beyond jamb nut on KD adjsuter, than band is worn out. You can verify by dropping pan. If nothing wrong with band than the gov pres solenoid is questionable'

well i picked up a trans from the recycling yard last week. it had 125,00 on it and we put it in and it is junk. first there is no 1 but 2 and 3 work great then all of a sudden 1 works and no 2 and 3. i am done with this crap. the tranny shop is now rebuilding my origanal and they are building it much tougher. i can not wait. every tranny i have had in there has been used and you never can trust em so i was always easy on it. i cant wait for my new tranny. costin me 3000 but should be worth it.
