got duty cycle/idle time #'s for the heck of it

just for the heck of it went to the end of my street to a dodge dealer... know the diesel tech..
he ran the numbers and said looks like all the other city drivers... said my load % even though low was better then some....

1587 gallons used
712 total hrs
191 gallons idle time
273 hrs idle..

21 - 30% load rate

thing is - thats a lot of idle time % compared to total hrs!

The best answer i can give is its an average of how you drive the truck. It takes various inputs like speed, rpm, throttle position etc and calculates to percentages. Im still learning these systems but there should have been a whole list of percentages on the screen of the DRB.Most cases of injector faliure i have come across idle time vs total time was the biggest concern.i think idle takes its toll on the injectors more so then load percentage.

What was your mileage? Average miles per running engine hour is a good number to compare with other trucks and easy to calculate.

Some times i wonder if the percentages are as accurate as the cyl. performance test they tell us is not accurate and not to go by anymore! DC like to change there tune every now and then.

ckennedy,

I cant find the thread on average miles per running engine hours, but I think most were actually in the 27-32 range. I will search for that thread, but everyone can go get the hours and calculate and let us know. Oh, I have to go outside now.

Still cant find the avr mile per running hour thead.

Mine is OD 28778 / Hours 985 = 29.21.

I do 70% of my driving in city stop and go driving and short trips. I make up for it the other 30% .

Nothing to me, because I cant change my driving needs no matter what the numbers, ratios, or idle time is. But kinda interesting to see.

Idle validation signal from APPS, rpm, vss would be one way.
