1999 Ctd

My cousin, as I write this, is making his best deal on a 1999 CTD. He just called me from the car lot and asked my opinion . He's in Bradenton and I'm in St. Petersburg.

I know about the different years in GM and what to watch for, but I know nothing about the CTD and the different years and models. And he knows less than me (poor soul).

It is a Lariat edition, EC, long bed, automatic with 128,000 miles and he has them at $12,500 less his trade. I told him it sounded good to me.

Any opinions would be welcome, although I'm sure he is probably sitting at the table by now. Still, it would be good to what he has just jumped into.

Thank you in advance, and this sight likes to be a good source of information for him.

On Edit: $12,199 WITH the trade.

He signed the "Intent to by" and drove it home. Called me and said he couldn't believe it rode so rough . Now is thinking about the 04 gasser that they had there. Told me it was a 2500 also. I told him the 4x4, tires and lift on this one would make the ride rougher, but the fact that both are 2500s means the gasser will still be stiff. He really just needs a 1500, I don't know why he's even looking at more than this.

Thanks for the reply, I was sure I could get some info here. Registered just so I could ask.

On edit: There really was a reply between these two posts. It apparently was deleted because of one word.
So that made this post look a little foolish.
I quoted it in this post without the word (just asterisks), and it was removed. That is fine, but at the bottom there was an indication that MY post was edited because of profanity. That is simply not true!

I don't know what he's trading, but that might be a little high. I guess it depends on many after market mods on the truck, tires, etc...

Does it have gages? I would want to check out the fuel pressure before I bought it.

It had three pillar gauges, he said, and another on the dash. He doesn't need this truck, and as I indicated above will probably take it back tomorrow. Again, I really don't know why he's looking at HDs. He just needs a half ton.

Have him check out if it is a 53 block. Might not want to get it if it is. I know lots of people have them but why take a chance on it.
here is the link on the 53 block info.

I saw that on here. See, I try to browse and search a little.

I'll be waiting to hear from him Monday. I really think he's going to take it back. He doesn't know the first thing about gassers, so he is really out in left field on diesels.

Thanks for the info. That "53 engine crack" sounds like a PITB. Has it been a big problem?

IMO, you hear about it more than it really occurs. A good portion (if not majority) of the 98-00 trucks are running 53 blocks, and have not cracked. Its just that when one happens, everyone hears about it. Check the passenger side of the block below the head first. If its not seeping, then don't worry about it, IMO. My truck has a 53 block, and I'm not gonna let it hold me back.
