1999 Ctd 12v?

Is it possible for a 99 to have the 12V motor? I'm looking at a truck that is a 3 hour drive away so I'm trying to get the most info from the seller through email and he says its a 12V.

Any way to tell through a VIN number?

Thanks

Tell him to look at the door. If it says "Cummins Turbo Diesel" its a 12v
if it says "Cummins 24 Valve Turbo DIesel" its a 24v. Also he may be off on the year. It's probably a 98. If it has a club cab (2 true doors) its a 98 or older. If it has a quad cab (4 moving doors) its atleast a 98 or newer.

Can't be a "99" and be a 12 valver without a transplanted engine.

I "think" the 8th digit will tell:
D=12 valve
6=24 Valve

No 12v 1999 trucks made. Either it is a transplant or the '99 cab was put on an earlier chassis. No need to look at ser numbers, they did not make one.

They did make a 99 24 valve "club cab" so that makes sense.

Technically the Quad-Cab was an option. An option that very, VERY few did not have but an option none the less. I have only seen one 99 without the quad doors...
