Im no expert, but a 93 has the rotary VE injector pump and the 94 was the first year of the inline P7100 - this pump will push a lot more fuel that the VE.

Also, the 93 and 94 trucks are COMPLETELY different machines.

Yes, It's even easier to p-pump a 1st gen, opposed to a 24 valve. Basicallly, just swap the timing gear housing. The fuel delivery to the pump has to be adressed too, ..and would need to use injectors from a 2nd gen 12 valve.

The '94's had the four-speed auto [optional] that proved more troublesome, I believe the '93's had the three-speed still. The '94's also had some detail problems with first-year glitches that be '95 - '96 had been mostly worked out. Most of these will have been dealt with by now. That being said....

The '94 is a WORLD apart from the '93. I think it was someone on here who said it [with all proper due respect] that the 1st gen truck had an interior designed by the Salvation Army. They can be lived with [and many on here really like them] but it is just a very old, dated design in general. They are simple, and easily worked on, but are more like a good beer - sort of an acquired taste. For the uninitiated, the '94 and up truck is much easier to live with.

The 4 speed auto started in '91.5 with the intercooled engine. '94 was the first year for a locking TC though.

The 1st gens are a lot easier to work on under the hood. On a 2nd gen the back third of the engine is under the cowl.

Downsides to a 1st gen - big HP costs more money, not much in the way of aftermarket gewgaws available, noisier and rougher ride, and the electrical system is just old-fashioned.

Upsides - easy to work on, generally cheaper, easy pump adjustments for more power, dirt-simple suspension on 4x4's.
