0216 VP Time

Ok I think it's my time for my vp44 to crap out. Coming home from work and she bucked under load, got quiet and then continued on. I was low on fuel at the time and it was HOT out. Stop at home to grab some 2-cycle and went to fill up. Drive home was ok, checked codes and 0216 was there. I have an Airtex lift pump and a PSI gauge a top the filter housing and also hooked up a gauge at the VP, they checked out at 18 - 20 psi idling. I cleared 0216 about 2 weeks ago but now it's back. So what the concensus on vp suppliers? I'm close to Midwest Fuel Injection, I've heard good & bad (CV pumps). What about Blue chip? Best warranties? The clock is ticking on my 02CTD VP-44 pump. HELP

what was the pressure under load?
have you changed the fuel filter? I know on my 99 the fuel pressure can fluctuate from 15 to over 35psi.. with a new filter but let the filter get dirty..the low might be 5 or less..I know this isn't good. but what's your's under load.

I cannot recommend a VP supplier..but I'm sure in the near future i'm be in the same boat as you..

I wasn't able to check my fuel PSI under load because the oring in the guage fitting turned into black goo. Eric at Vulcan said it likely was eat'in from bio-diesel and he would send out some more oring's. I only used that gauge once, in the mean time I'll jerry rig something else to check fuel psi at the vp44 inlet.

I just got a reman VP$$ from Thoroughbred Diesel for just over a grand shipped. I went with them 'cause they're close (I got it next day with standard shipping). They shipped same day and paid for the core return, great people to deal with.

I called Midwest in May 08 and they could not ship to me(inCanada) without using UPS/FEDEX, and the freight companys will charge customs fees that are astronomical, they told me to contact Taber Diesel in Alberta, as they do business with them, long story short the VP had a made in the USA sticker on it so I suspect it came from Midwest, its been over a yr now and I drive 8-10hrs daily, just checked my hourmeter and since jan 09 I've logged 800hrs of run time, No regrets with my purchase, o yeah the pump's been tapped since Nov 08

to put it in perspective I spent 15,000$ in fuel last year, so that pump has seen lots of use!

Thanks for the replies, I did hook up my test gauge at the VP last nite and watched it on the way to work. Got about 18 psi at idle, 13-14 at cruise, and about 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 WOT. Not great WOT #'s but not horrible for a year old Airtex pump in the stock location and an old fuel filter too. My MPG is down about 2 or 3 so I'm gonna start making plans for replacing my tired VP. Midwest is close by I'll give them a call.
