02 Low on power, or is just the auto trans??

The 02 CTD 3500 4wd, with auto trans is a total dog. No one will use it because it goes ok by its self, but even an empty trailer, it is weak. I think it doesnt have the power it should, Even w/o a trailer.
It has new fuel, new trans filters. New IP and LP. I checked for codes, it had one for overboost, but that was a stuck waste that I fixed.
It runs ok, idle ok. Shifts somewhat ok, Doesnt seem to down shift when you mash on it. Doesnt appear to slip.
Need to get it running right ASAP.
Where to look Next??

Have you checked fuel pressure, compression, timing, is it getting hot or building boost. just my 2 cents.

It doesnt have gauges. LP and IP are 4 months old. So I hope they are still good. Could the shop have messed with the timing when changing IP??
It has normal op temps. I'll try a comp test later.

If they put the key it the pump that came with it, then it's timed right. Check boost a WOT should be close to 20, if not then there might be something wrong. What are you conparing it to? If your used to running a chipped truck then it will fill like a dog. Also check for codes. key on,off,on,off,on and watch your odometer.

How about injectors? Those never thought of items generally deroriate so slowly that no one notices. If has over 100 K , I would surely recomend testing. I just replaced mine with aftermarket from Pensocalo Diesel with excellent results.

The transmission should down shift "when you mash on it." The shifts should be smooth and on time. Are the shifts stacked? i.e. It shifts from 1 to 4th very quickly. It sounds like you might have stacked shifts and no kick down. Check the cable and the lever on the transmission for the Throttle valve. I bet the lever fell off on the transmission.

Ill check all these things tomorrow. The truck is a slug compared to other stock CTDs Ive drive. The guys at work said they wont drive it any more, because it barely pulls the trailer(a 28ft tandem axle GN). i took it out and they were right. it was like a S-10 pulling a 5th wheel camper up a hill.
I mash on it and it doesnt down shift, It revs up to 2100 and almost wont go any more. It slowly, SLOWLY, goes up to approx 3000RPM(not slipping) and then it shifts.
Its a total slug. Some thing is wrong.
No codes.
It did get hotter than Id like. It was above 190, but below 240 redline..... Transmission getting hot???? Trans cooler?
No loss of coolant. I pressure tested the coolant system to 15 PSI held for 45 minutes. figured that was long enogh.
What Next? Thanks for the help so far.

Might check the MAP sensor. My truck was a dog and id have never known it had I not installed my EDGE and got no boost readout. When it shifted into OD the truck just bogged down. Sounded cool but there was hardly any power. After replacment it ran like a scalded cat

Before the new pumps it had little power and smoke and chugged.
Its going to Georges Diesel in Des Moines on Friday to check it out. they know their stuff. I still think its a sensor problem, but the trans is definitely got an issue also.
