02' Engine - Drivetrain Warranty

Can someone tell me if my year came standard with the 7 yr/ 100k or the 5 yr / 70k warranty? I have my VIN available if there is a database that would tell me. I posted earlier about the wheel bearing/ U-joint question.

Thanks!

All 02s should have 7/100.

The lessening of the warranty happened in the 2004MY, IIRC..

Well, not quite. I ordered my truck and took delivery on August 15, 2001 - it was one of the first 2002s off the line. It has a 3/36 bumper-to-bumper and 5/100 Cummins engine warranty. The 7/100 warranty came about as an incentive later in the 2002 model year.

...I know what you mean but that would be great if cummins offered a warranty for the ram! I'd rather bring the truck to cummins for service, than dodge. Anyone know of a dodge dealer that outsources to a cummins shop in IL? My warranty is pretty much moot because its less hassle/risk for me to just do the work my self. I've had really bad experiences, 90% of the time, with warranty work from various dealers.

On my 01 I got 100k warranty on the powertrain. It was my understanding that this was the case on all cummins powered diesels... The 7 year 100,000 bumper to bumper was a special offer with "Home for the holidays" event.

Check the build date on the plate on the door piller, I think only the 2002's built after June 30 have the 7/100. My build ate is 3/15/02 and I have a 3/36.

Build date has nothing to do with the special incentive warranty. It all depends on when the truck officially entered service. I bought my truck off the dealer's lot Memorial Day weekend 2002 and it was built in Oct. 2001 and it came with the extended warranty.

Pretty sure mine purchased 3-1-02 has the 7/100K.
I remember a big banner at the Dealership saying buy now.

From what I have just read in this, I am going to do more checking. The information I posted was what the dealer in Bellingham WA told us when we purchased the truck.
Scook6 you did well on getting the incentive.

This is exactly correct. You need to run the vin and see when it was first put into service. Running the vin will show what coverage you do in fact have.

A-ha! I bought my truck LATE in the 02my (Aug 02), so that explains it.

I thought he was referring to the warranty getting SHORTER (fewer miles), not longer.

What's the warranty on new trucks? Isn't it 5/70 or something?

Not that I have a use for a new truck!

I checked the door pillar and it said June 2002, I did not take delivery (or was it put into service) until Oct. 14th 2002.....guess I should have the 7yr/100k?

BTW, stopped at a tire shop and had a mechanic take a rid ewith me to listen to the wheel......never made a sound ...go figure.
