01 Trany service and band adjust

I would like to do my own fluid change and band adjust on my tranny. How hard is it and can someone give me an idea as to what I am getting into? My tranny is working well so far, no slip, should I do anything special?

A Goerend will be comming, still saving my $$$. I have 130k on it, I think I am going to wait and get a new rebuilt all at once.

Thanks Bob

Thanks Bob

BobQ, I hope you don't mind but I'd like some info too ... I'm going to be doing the same pretty soon.

I have added a VA and 275's. I know that raising the line pressure would help prolong life too ... I'm sure that would help with the Smarty aswell. Anybody got any good info on doing this or should it be done by a pro?

There is no drain on a stock converter. Drop the filter and loosen the VB and you'll get most of the old fluid out. I run Mec/Dex with some Lubeguard.

Is there a way to pull off a line to the cooler and keep filling the trany until the fluid comes out clean? I have heard of this, but never tried it?

Does most of the fluid come out by loosening the valve body?

Someone may have a suggestion for this, but I had some real problems getting at the rear band adjuster.

It may have been the result of a shoulder dislocation I had, but I had a he11 of a time getting at the rear band with the TQ wrench.
