I have several numbers for the heater-seal/gasket and will find them--------maybe.

I could not find the 9/16 socket, has anyone tried using a wood spade drill bit, 9/16 and a cresent wrench? Pretty crafty, eh? Might work.

YES, that should work real good.

A little file/grinder work should turn an old spade-bit into a genuine filter-stud tool.

If you want to get fancy, a NUT could be welded onto the shaft, up close, and the shaft then cut off at the nut, such that a socket/ratchet could be used.

The sharp guide-point could be profiled to better fit the center hole of the stud.

One of my spade bits even has a 1/4" hex on the drive end, not sure if it is all strong enough that far away....

I left my poor old neglected truck off for 2 hours and it started up like new, YIPPIE! I hate to admit how long this project has lingered. I am even doing an oil change on ole blue.

Cummins P/N 3913695

Dodge P/N 4429 695

NOTE: Both P/N's are dated and have most likely been superseded, but they are still good numbers.

My gasket came in so I will pull it apart, maybe. Tried hard to find the correct socket, but nothing on hand. Sears shows one I can order but it is 1/2" drive. How far in the fitting is the engagement point? I will soon find out.

Back on the road again after resting all winter. Thanks for all the advice, even better than what I paid for it!

The wood spade bit worked well in a pinch for the filter stem, one wider than 9/16 may work even better. The gasket looked like it needed replaced or at least tightened.

The access hole in the bed is even patched nicely and my self cleaning bed option is ended......

On to the next waiting truck!
