Zero-hour cost, Crew cab conversion and Twins

What is the cost for a zero-hour from Cummins for our 5.9s? Is it worth the money or should I try to find someone locally? I tried to sell the Crew cab but apparently God has other plans for it so, It is time to start planning for my 1980 Crew cab conversion and I need some pricing options. I want to buy an engine/auto trans/TC, rebuild them, and then install them into the Crew cab.

Trooper Thorn and BC847, I will need some guidance from you and others who have put a Cummins in a Crew cab and/or done extensive mods. Greg (I like bikes) I will need some guidance in metal fabricating and Twin Turbos. I plan on starting the project around June so I'm in info gathering mode now. I have a lot of questions such as 1st gen vs. 2nd gen engines, A518 vs. 47rh and so on.....

Peace,

Joseph

not sure what the price would be on a "zero-hour" one, but the 1st questions you need to decide is, do you want a 1st Gen CTD , 2nd Gen , etc..

I have done a 1st Gen CTD into my 4 door and to be honest it took sometime and a little fab work. but it was easy.

even a 2nd Gen CTD would not be that bad, but a 3rd Gen that is to much wiring for me. and making computers work can stink..

for reference I bought my 4 door in April 2008 , but did not really get started on conversion until June 20008 and I had it on the road beginning of Sept 2008.

If I had a good shop to work in and some more free time I probably coul dhave had it done in about 1 month, but working ongravel and mostly on weekends does make it draw out some.

As for doing twins, I really like BC847's setup.. clean and also in a kit form, so less hassle trying to make it all work.

engine will depend or your plans
do you want 500hp?
and if you do how much do you want to spen to get there?
1st gens can make it but it will be spendy.
2nd gens can also get there but it will be a little easier

Last year while I was at my local Dodge Dealer getting parts I ask how much for a new 6BT 5.9 Cummins long block and I was told it would be in the vicinity of $10,000.00

Getting it from Cummins would probably be a lot less.

Is it going to have to be inspected by the DMV after the swap?

here in Harris County TX they dont care much about the non-emissions vehicles. They just do a simple safety check and your on your way. (lights, horn, e-brake, ect.)
