Question You're Gonna Do What? (Hy-Guard in 727)

Have we not beaten this dead horse enough?
No?
...
Ok, then.

Long story short I lost second gear about a week before christmas. Now it's time for a rebuild.

Things I know:
I have a TorqueFlite A727.
The dipstick says: use ATF Plus or Dexron II.
The book says use: ATF Plus or Dexron II ONLY if Plus cannot be obtained.
The transmission helps the engine turn a vroom sound in to a whoosh sound.

Things I have learned.
Even if you are missing two bolts from the pan, the dipstick tube o-ring is the most likely cause of a leak.
The 727 will use just about anything as a fluid.
Munroe says: Dexron will be ok for stock non-lockup, Plus 4 for lock-up, Type F for racing.
From Grabby to slippery: Hy-Gard, Type F, ATF Plus *, Dexron *. (Disputed)
When running Hy-Gard it is best to run a screen filter instead of the fiber filter.

I would have never thought of Hy-Gard (1), until I got a five gallon pail for free.
A thread over here lead me to a thread somewhere else (2) where people are having good experiences with Hy-Gard. I basically have my mind set on running the Hy-Gard. The thing that is keeping me from running with it is that on one specifically mentions the 727. They all talk about the Ford C-4 and AOD as well as the GM Powerglide and TH400. There is even talk of running it in a manual transmission and a transmission with an overdrive, no talk of the 727. I don't know anything about the Ford transmissions, but I know the TorqueFlite and Turbo-Hydramatic are similar in that they both can run just about anything and Type F is recommended for racing. So, putting two and two together to get five we arrive at the conclusion Hy-Gard should be good for the A727 as well.

What do you think about running John Deere Hy-Gard in the TorqueFlite A727?

More common than you would think. Most run the low viscosity stuff and add a quart of ATF to dye it red.

For cold climates, I see a 50/50 mix. For non-lockups, it can be good for lowering the stall a couple hundred rpm

I have hydraulic fluid in my 727 and so far, I have no issues with it. Like Jon mentioned, I can tell it's really thick first thing on a cold morning. After a couple miles down the road, it all irons out. I have not gotten an opportunity to tow with it yet.

FWIW, I recently rebuilt my trans and filled it with a 50/50 of low vis Hygard and Type F. Now I havent checked the stats/viscosity indexes on either of those fluids but when refilling the trans the type F was visibly thicker than the hygard...took longer to drain from the funnel into the unit than the hygard by a very noticeable margin. I`m running a brass filter but I might give a dacron one a try for its better filtering ability. So far zero issues running this combo of fluids.

Thanks for the help.
According to the sticky the capacity is 8.4 quart.
I have decided to get 2 gallons of low viscosity Hy-Gard and top of with Type F.
