You're gonna love this!!

I currently own a 2000 Powerstroke....that broke donw the other day. Why did it break down...glad you asked. A stupid, $90 'cam postitioning sensor' bit the dust.

To recap, I paid $34,000 so I can break down on a Montana mountain road. I was totally helpless...and mad. This last week I decided I am not going to deal with this again. The Powerstroke is going down the road....without me!

I am now looking for a 3/4 ton, Dodge, ext cab, 5 spd, old body style. The reason for the old body style is because it is made out of steel and not a pop can.
The question now is this:
What do and what do I not want in an older Dodge. I figure if I can get away with paying $10K, I am willing to do some work to it, add some HP and such. I want the engine to be mechanical everything....no more computer stuff in a rig for me.

Tips and suggestions??

If you are looking for a CTD with a mechanical engine you will have to look for a 1998.4 and down, they are 12 valve,98.5 and above are 24 valves with computer controlled fuel pump. 12 Valve Rules

Are you looking for a 1 gen. or 2 gen? A 1994 is when Dodge went to the 2 gen. body style. -Anthony

It is hard to find the older body styles with a diesel. Most of the people I talk to will not sell them. I want a 93 4x4 5spd diesel. If you find one it will either be cheap with a ton of miles or $$$$ with a little miles. That is just in Ohio and Kentucky. That is where I have looked.
But I like driving my pop can around. as long as the motor is not made out of popcans. AKA Durajunk

Re:You're gonna love this!!

I don't like the new body style for one. Second, in the ranching world, it will not be as durable as the older style. Cows and horse rubbing on a newer style make dents....been there, done that. Plus I am wanting the lesser amount of electronic components as possible (in the cab too).

Ther are Gen 1's all ove the place out here in the west. 100,000 miles is about average. SOmetimes you find them with less.

Re:You're gonna love this!!

Tell me, is it reasonably possible to get 250 HP out of a pre-1994 12 valve? Is thre any reason, engine wise why I wouldn't want to go pre 94? I just loathe the new body style as well as the radius arms and coil springs.

Kinda getting off topic a little...

Re:You're gonna love this!!

As far as HP and Torque look at my sig. I am at 247RWHP with 578 lbft torque. Nascar Mark is over 300 for $1200 to $1500. It is possible to move up to the 250 hp range quite easily.
Bob

Re:You're gonna love this!!

250 RWHP is a pretty easy find.. YOu would have to stick with the 5 gear or put some $$ into the auto to hold that HP.. Bushy has some pretty good power and a nice rig to boot.. He would be a good one to ask about the last of the first gens with an auto. Nascar Mark has a drag racing beast, don't know if you want to go that extreme..LOL.

J-eh
