Wobbly NP 205

For you guys that have had a 205 apart... Can I take the output shaft out of the case to inspect it without loosing a bunch of bearings and stuff down in the case? The reason I ask is that my output shaft has a little play (vertical) and I've already changed the output shaft bearing. Seems like it may be a bit loose on the other end and I'd like to take a look but don't want to drop the whole T-case right now. The exploded view isn't really clear.

Thanks,
Brian

I have the same issue. It does not translate into a driveline vibration. I went through the t-case and couldn't find a reason to replace any of the main bearings. I guess it's just the nature of the beast. My spare has a good wobble to it as well, with only a fraction of the miles. Still, I feel your frustration

Thanks Greg.

I am indeed chasing a vibration. It'll be fine for awhile, any speed, then when I hit the right sort of bump, something in the rear driveline tumbles. Lately it's bad enough that I have to stop. When the truck stops moving the vibration stops, then I can take off again until I hit the magic bump. The driveshaft shop balanced the shaft and said the splines are OK. The U-joints are new as is the output shaft bearing. The pinion doesn't have any play that I can see. I guess I'll have to strap my brother under there and go for a ride.

But can the rear half of the output shaft come out independantly, or does the case have to come out? I've got to come up with a solution, the truck is fast becoming undrivable.

Thanks,
Brian
