Wiper assembly in cowl broke

Any tips on getting to the wiper assembly ( arms) that connect to the wiper motor on these old first gens? One fo the arms disconnected from the motor on my truck, and it is supposed to rain all weekend and part of next week. Thanks guys!

Pull off the grated piece where the splined shafts protrude through. If you open the hood you'll see the Phillips screws along the cowl and the other end tucks under the windshield rubber. Still sucks to get at the transmission but it is possible. Assuming its just a plastic clip? A transmission from 81-93 fits.

I assume by transmission you mean wiper motor?

The motor is fine, I can see the it working through the grates in the cowl. Is there a trick to getting the wipers off? I attempted to yesterday.
I hope it is a plastic clip, and that I wont have to replace one of the arms.

No the transmission is the linkages under the grated cowl piece. There is a lever on the wiper arm that pivots out then the arm pulls off.

All the linkages are held together by plastic bushings that press fit into the linkage. I always remove the entire linkage assembly by unbolting the arm from the motor, unbolting the wiper pivots from the cowl and using channnellock pliers to squeeze the new bushings in place.

Also, be sure to identify left and right pivots as they are different (the crank arms differ in length to change the sweep of the wipers across the windshield).

And be sure to mark how the arm goes Onto the wiper motor so you don't get it out of sync

Wiper arms are the same. May be indexed wrong on the pivot. If I am getting what you are meaning, remove the wiper arm from the pivot stud, rotate the arm slightly clockwise and reinstall. It usually takes me a few tries to get mine where they don't smack the trim, and get the sweep right.

i took the grated piece off and saw that the cab was bent a little under i guess where the people that had the truck before hit it pulling the motor,..... beat it flat and the fit like a glove now

Thanks for your help guys, I plan on tearing into it tomorrow. I've been extremely busy with school and work, so I haven't got into it yet.

I have been thinking about taking it to a dealer, but the local dodge dealer around here is a pain in the rear to deal with. So Ill do it myself. After a long hard day of working on Big Rigs, I usually don't want to work on anything else lol

Thumbs up pivot points wiper arms

Is it the plastic bushing on the arms broke? If so find the ad/ someone had done a write up awhile back on upgrading the bushing at the pivoting points it was the same thing it did to fix my wiper arms. this should be called an upgrade this will end u ever having to get back in there for some time. I'm going on 3years haven't touched anything in my cowling area.bushing replacement had something to do with drilling the center of the pivot points out with a correct drill bit for an 8-32 machine bolt.anu will need some nylon, brass, bushing, your local lowes should have everything u need for this upgrade.if u nee some help I M me respone soon.

john

@bigjohn92 I used the same approach, it was the plastic bushin broken. It was the arm that comes off the wiper motor. I replaced it like you said. We will see if it lasts. Thank you all for your help!
