crank sensor issues

Well about 4 weeks ago my factory tach started acting funnier than usual, and then just stopped working altogether. About a week after that...no charging. So I replaced the alternator and still no charge. I looked on here, and found that the cause is probably my crank sensor. I never could figure out why my ac compressor would not ever kick on since I've owned the truck..so it all links together. Ordered a crank sensor, and put it on. Still nothing. I gapped it with a business card so its not rubbing the crank pulley, and still nothing.

What I've noticed is that the passenger side stud looks like there should be some kind of spacer behind the sensor bracket and there is none. If you tighten the nut it just ***** the sensor. The drivers side stud has no issue, and the nut tightens against the sensor bracket fine. Could this be why its not registering, or am I missing something else?

I've been pulling the battery out of the truck everyday for about 2 weeks now to charge it, and have been using a jump box to jump start it to get home everyday from work. I was riding my motorcycle but the ignition coil went bad on it, and it just got in today..so thats on the list of things to do this weekend.

Check the wiring for the crank sensor. They are known to rub through on the head.

That wire goes through a connector at the front of the engine, then the 10 place connector under the intake manifold, then the connector on the PCM. Both the power from the PCM, and the ground goes through in harness splices. What could possibly go wrong?

On the positive side, it's a hall effect sensor, so it's easy to check out with a volt meter.

Yes, both studs should have the spacer on them.
