Winter trans temp control

My 93 CTD has the dual trans cooler set up and the trans in winter rarely seems to get up to operating temp even on my 40 mile run to work. My guage is reading from the rear of the pan. Winter months where Im at get into the upper teens. I disconnected the extra cooler last year and that helped, but after a heavy tow to the mountains, it got to hot for me. Anyone know if covering the cooler under the bed will do the trick or what is the best way to go.
Thanks for the advise.
