Windshield Gasket ?
Just found a chip in my windshield, and I was searching for a new gasket for replacement.
Where do you guys get yours ? Rock auto and JCWHIT didn't list one, AFAIK
TIA

I just went through the whole front windshield fiasco. Your better off going to a trusted glass shop and have them order the new gasket and locking strip. Most of the time though your old gasket will be in good enough shape for them to re-use.
I bought my new gasket off E-bay...but didn't get the chrome locking strip with it. It was a lot harder to just buy the chrome locking strip locally. My glass shop told me that if I had just come into them they could have ordered everything as a kit, it would have been much easier. They eventualy were able to just get the chrome locking strip, but it cost me.

I agree with thrashingcows. you will not pay much more to a glass place for the gasket and if there is a problem with poor fit, leaks etc. they will fix it. If you supply the gasket it becomes your problem.

Good advice,
I'll check to see the nearest glass shop and have them do the work.
I really wanted to pull the windshield myself to see if there's any rust issues below the seal.... address them, and then take it somewhere.
I guess I could still do the same thing.... I'll just be driving with goggles on that day...

Check around and see if you can find a old timer who really knows his stuff. I got the run around from a lot of the "Big" name glass companies. They basicly told me to bugger off, and it wasn't worth their time to work on this old stuff.
After talking to a few people I was recommended to a small glass shop, and the owner has been doing this stuff for 30+ years. Great place to deal with.....really knew his stuff.
I too removed my own windshield, then cleaned under the front drip rail...prime and repaineted...then drove 20 miles to the glass shop with no windshield. It was a hoot.

The glass place we use only charges around $5 to come out to our shop and replace glass. Can't even drive into town for $5 these days.

thanks for the shop name, id be happy with just afew drips from the wind shield, but on the buddys truck when you see streams coming the new windshield gasket from two different shops it tends to turn into snafu fubar four letter cuss word time

After seeing how the shop that did my windshield tried/had to seal things up...I wouldn't attempt it myself. He put sealant inside both the outside, and inside channels, and then more on the outside. It was a dirty messy job that you couldn't pay me enough to try and do myself. Plus if they break the glass trying to slap it into place it's their dime to replace.
