wind shield wiper groment

My windshield wiper quit on my 88 gasser. The plastic groment on the pivot arm
rotted and gave away.
I checked my two parts trucks and the groments are rottened on these also.
Any ideas about how to fix these on a sunday afternoon?
You guys need to be looking at yours so that you don't get caught in a rain storm and no wipers. These are a soft like plastic and 20 yrs old!

Are these availible from auto zoners help kits?

Thanks, Tom

IF you are near an oreillys and you have the same problem as him you can get the bushings in the help/motormite aisle for around 3 or 4 bux

When mine quit on my '91, I had some rubber bushings that where the same size here at work. I took all the plastic crap out, put the rubber bushings on and then drilled a small hole cross the shaft. I then installed a cotter through the shaft to hold the wiper arm on. It has worked great eversince.

I recently got stuck on the highway with a broken bushing in a downpour (naturally, the one that comes off the wiper motor, not one going to the passenger side). I knew what it was, and only stopped at an underpass to verify it. I bought some the next day (bright and sunny), only to find the parts store version hard as a rock, and unuseable. I used the old bushing and a hairpin from a hitch pin for the time being. Gonna check the dealer and see what they get for good ones.

I went to buy the truck in my sig and it was raining. When we got there and made the transaction he told me the wipers didn't work and he couldn't figure out why the didn't work , so I had to drive 1 hour home, luckly all back roads with no wipers in a heavy thunder storm next day went to napa and 3.00$ later had wipers again.
