will this rock auto 4wd indicator light sensor work?
will this rock auto 4wd indicator light sensor work?
Well I finally got around to ordering a 4wd indicator light that goes in the top of my transfer case. I ordered the one from rockauto and the picture of the one i ordered appeared to look the same as the one I have. Well it came today and its a bit different.

the size and threads appear to be the same (but the threads are broke off this old spare indicator sensor that I compared it too, havent pulled the one I have in it now to compare it) but the plug is different. I was wondering if this would work if I just spliced my wires and found a new male plug that would go into this new sensor? It appears to be about the same and probably accomplishes the same purpose, just wonderin if they sent me the wrong sensor or if this is the one you get now and just have to make it work?

You need to find a GM connector to use it. If you can't find one from a GM pick up truck you can rummage around through the wrecking yards and look for a similar plug under the hood near the heater box of a late 70's to early 80's Monte Carlo. You will then need to cut a slot in the GM plug to index it into the switch connection. The switch you have has that little index tab hickey where it plugs in.
so it can be used? or people have used this before??? or is it still the wrong one? I figured I could make it work but didn't wanna ruin anything if it wasn't going to work for me.
Well if it's a case of switching some wiring around...that might be doable. Jim, Mr. Martin...you're up on this one....

Thanks for letting us know.

I think the threads are tight on purpose, you don't thread switch in all the way. Thread in enough to adjust detent.
If someone is smart enough to figure out the wiring to make it work that would be great
I have no idea what a 5 pole relay has to do with this.
An ordinary mini-ISO relay, like the 3 on the left fender, has a NC contact that will work for inverting polarity. 12V to sensor to coil on relay. Common and NC contacts on the relay wired to original sensor wires.
