Unhappy Why is my right rear wheel getting HOT?

So I noticed my right rear wheel drum is getting hot. Jacked it up, found that its kinda snug but I can still turn it over with hand + effort. I pick-and-screwdriver it to back off the adjuster and that improves the problem, BUT it happens again within a day. I keep my pick on me at all times but its not fun to do it in work clothes...Anyone know why my so called "auto adjuster" is over tightening the brakes? Its slowing me down and Im sure its killing my milage.....?

hows the other side? you should also feel the hub as well to make sure it isn't heating buy bearings set too tight

Have you had the drums off messing with the brakes lately? Or done anything to change the situation prior to heating up? Set the P brake & it didn't return? If not, and the bearings aren't dry, it may be the auto adjuster. They say to replace them when doing a brake job. I've heard of them not adjusting up tighter but maybe they can misbehave the other way too?

perhaps a parking brake cable that is not releasing fully? that would engage the adjuster every time you backed up, tightening it....

I had the rear seals and cylinders and dump valve done a week ago-no shoes or adjusters. It was doing the same before this job though, but I initially thought that I had over adjusted my brakes. I will give the cables a look, one is pulling up an inch or so before the other, and the e-brake is really high...mike

Checked the cables, seems like the one going to the problem side does not move when the ebrake is pressed...I can yank on the cable but not get the same amount of movement as the other side. I think something is boogered up in the wheel sooooo...I think its time I dive into it and avoid the shop. Is there a image of a properly set up rear brake system. I need something to reference to.

I had a problem with this also a while back. I replaced the two E-brake cables from the bed to the wheels. I got them from an all-pro store and as I recall, they were very reasonably priced. Now I dont have to deal with my rear brakes sticking everytime I use the e-brake. The old cables just get full of crap and dirt and don't like to move freely.

I soak those cables with penetrating oil once or twice a year and use the e-barke every time I park. Never had this problem. One vehicle is a 1971 Chrysler (same basic brake/e-brake design). The problem is moisture gets in there, and once they start binding up, it's game over.

I've tried the penetraing oil trick a time or two, and once it gets rusted and gummed up, it's game over. O'Reilley's has them for ~$12 a side.
