Why doesn't my AC cycle?

The probe sensor is new. What else could it be?

Why do you want it to cycle? It doesn't cool when the compressor is off.

Okay, why doesn't it cool like it used to? Just recharged it, and it didn't even take a can. Lost...

If you are using the max-ac selection, the thermostat (the red blue slider) is disabled, and the compressor will not cycle off. If you are using the ac selection, it should cycle when it is moved toward the red...Mark

Try disconnecting the compressor clutch power wire, while it's running, and manually cycle it a few times. Also, put in on ac, slide it all the way to the red and then try manually disconnecting the clutch...Mark

on my dad's 04 the lines get REALLY cold when the compressor cycles. Mine should not be getting hot, they should freeze. I can't even hold my return line. the line going in to the evaporator is only somewhat cold.

BUMP

It is hot by the evaporator, hotter towards the dryer, and hottest at the condenser on the return line.

I'm kinda thinking maybe my condenser is plugged up on the inside. The outside is clean.

I know that GM systems have an in-line filter, usually connected near the filter dryer or accumulator. When these clog up it produces the symptoms that you describe. I do not know if the Dodge system has one, maybe somebody else knows...Mark

the condenser line to the expansion valve should be hot, the line out of the evaporator to the compressor reveals the colder temperatures with a full charge, and a full frost pattern across the coils. you look at the dryer sight glass to monitor the refrigerant charge going from foam/bubbles at lower charge, to liquid at full charge, no bubbles, at this point, the suction line, evap to compressor, should reveal a cold "feel". a set of gauges will reveal a restriction, usually at the expansion valve, showing a lower than normal suction pressure/higher than normal high side pressure. when i got mine up and running, lines were right temps, evap was plugged with dog hair, vacuumed the co-driver discharge out of the compartment, and performance resumed.

I cleaned my evaporator as well the line from the expansion valve thru dryer to condenser gets so hot you can't hold your hand on it. The sight glass has a FEW bubbles, and we put a can of R12 on it, but it won't take any more. Guessing pressure is too high, but I don't have a gauge. What does a dryer cost? should I start there? Maybe the condenser? This is new to me and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks!
