Why do our 4X4 levers rattle?

I cannot figure this one out. Why do our 4x4 levers vibrate/rattle at highway speeds? Is my drive shaft missing a weight? Is something wrong with my Transfer case? Please help me.

Rattle? Mine used to just rattle, now I noticed on my thanksgiving day drive, the shifter handle on my truck is resonating...like a tuning fork thats been hit against a table. I noticed this annoying, high pitched hum/whine. I coulndt tell if it was new turbo noise from the new filter? A new weatherstripping leak? A window slightly open? I reached over and touched the shifter with my finger and it stopped.

My truck is gonna resonate to pieces...

No rattles or noises in the son's W-250 at any speed.

If yours is rattling, it could be about to fall off.

Mine used to rattle. I pulled the boot off and made some adjustments to the clips and put it back together. No more rattles.

Does it rattle or resonate if you have the transmission in neutral with the engine revved up to freeway speeds? This could pinpoint if it was coming from the engine/ driveline or from the vibrations from the road.

I have a nephew-in-law that uses a device called a Micro-Vibe and he travels the country and balances Aircraft Propellers and Heilocopter Rotors with this device. It uses a reflective dot on the propeller that is caught by a laser to track the rotation. Sensors pick up all of the different vibrations of the entire airframe and since every rotating and oscillating part has its own signature and can be displayed on a graph. The device can single out any signature and pinpoint where it is coming from.
He can balance out most any vibration by placing weights on the spinner.

We put it on my engine and he showed my where each vibration and rattle was from.

Here is what it looks like.

Here is a small hand held unit I would consider to buy if I could justify the need for it at work.

I have seen the post in the sticky, but I am trying to figure out [I]why[I] it rattles, rather than put a band-aid on it. It didn't rattle from new, and the 4X4 lever was never "tight," or built to absorb vibration from the factory. The vibration is coming from somewhere else, but I don't know where to start looking.

Mine rattled since day 1, I think because their just simple levers with a little play in them they move around. you can shim them up with washers.
