Where did they all go ?

Over the last couple days, I thought I'd start looking for parts for my 93.

Called every bone yard in nj, and a few in pa. They all say Nothing.

I've searched Ebay, and CL and nothing there either. It's amazing that these trucks are all gone.... at least up here.

I'm not looking for anything in particular, but if I found a boneyard with a couple of them in there, I just may upgrade what I've got.

Anyone every go up to Harry's U-pull it in West Hazleton PA ???

3.5 hour ride for me, and when I cal them, they say... it's $2.00 to get in and that's all I can tell you. I tell them I'm traveling far, can you just see if there's anything there to look at, and they just say no.

Where did they all go ?

I've been to Harry's many many times. I does suck that you have to pay to get in, especially when you come out empty handed. I have got some great deals there though. 3.5 hr ride is a hike if you don't find anything. Seems like they have a lot of newer vehicles in there though, but there inverntory changes quite a bit. Good luck with the hunt.

1st gen stuff is getting harder to find around here, to the point that I buy gassers and dead Ramchargers for the generic pieces like fenders, doors, interior parts, etc.
Anything Cummins powered that is complete will still bring well over $1,000 for a rusty, crusty, beat parts truck, much less one with a good tranny of any sort.

A 3.5 hour drive for me is a short 1 day outing, but with fuel prices going mad, staying local is becoming more of a necessity.
Scrap's still up and I have quite a little, so that kinda' offsets the fuel somewhat.

In this poverty-stricken region where I live, scrap cars/trucks have been bringing over $200/ton for a year or more; clean short-iron is a lot higher than that.

Thus, seeing as how everyone around here is always broke --- even when the rest of the nation is experiencing good times --- , no one lets a junker truck/car sit around on the slim chance that someone just as broke as they might possibly need a part from it.

They get hauled to the crusher and then they are gone forever.

A local scrap buyer had a 1964 I-H 4x4 step-bed that I had known from the day it was bought new; this truck ran and was drivable.

He parked it out front and tried to sell it whole, clear title and all, for barely above scrap price.

I would have liked to have bought it, but more pressing matters always kept me from doing so.

He finally gave up and crushed it a few months ago.

I'm just bummed that I can't even go look at any one of these trucks in a bone yard... just to see one sitting there.

I could care less about the $2 to get in. I just wanted some kind of reassurance that I wouldn't go there for nothing. If I knew that there were at least a couple of them there to look @ I'd take the trip without hesitation. Last time I was @ Harry's was about 15 years ago. They had everything and anything. Not wanting to go up and look for nothing.

NJTman, I hear your sentiments.
I don't know how many times people have called me and asked me "how does this go together?" because they have something in pieces and no examples of the vehicle to look at to help them out.

Pretty hard to put a basket case together, when the basket itself isn't even complete.

I've been to Harry's on several occasions. You've got to have good luck. If you get there on a good day when they bring in a "fresh kill" your ok, otherwise they are stripped clean in a matter of hours...

Well, that's good enough for me....

When I was born, and they were handing out luck, I must have been in the other room at the time, and missed my fair share.

Maybe, I'll just tell the wife we're "going for a ride to see the country" and tell myself that there's a nice diner in W. Hazleton PA that I wanted to have lunch in, and just so happen to stop by the JY.

Thanks...
