whats the deal with these injectors?

Anyone know whats up with these? I'm finding them all over the place now on un-popular diesel performance sites.

Bosch "230" 92-93 injectors http://www.truckdieselparts.com/indu...1989-1993.html

My dad had some Bosch 230's in his ole' 95 p-thumper and they were pretty smokey but really woke that thing up.

just curious...

I know there are some boats around here with rotary pump B series that have 230hp stamped on their timing cover. Perhaps these injectors along with their stock 3200rpm springs make them 230hp vs 160hp?

I wonder if thats what the deal is with Bosch 190's and Bosch 180's (you never see).

There just horsepower rating, So a 180Hp bus would prob have "Bosch 180's"

I/c and Non i/c trucks have different piston bowls, Hence the reason Non i/c trucks like POD injectors...Thats really what the piston bowl was designed for. The stock injectors are 4x.012 and the POD's are 4x.014...

Then emissions people rolled along and said :nono: to emitting black smoke, Added cleaner running injectors (6x.009), 21cm lagmaster housing, Intercooler, "Smaller" pump, and reshaped the piston bowls.

ughhh... i hate being sick.. i can take something that would take 2 sentences to get the point across and make it so long i get my self confused.

I understand that the 92s had lousy injectors and the 21sq cm lagmaster, but what's this about a "smaller" pump ?

Might want to do a little more research on your piston theories.

NonIC and IC trucks had different piston bowls. Seems to me the IC were a little shallower and wider, while the IC almost has a lip around the edge of the piston bowl, and is noticeably deeper.

The "smaller" pump has to do with fuel rate- 78mm/stroke with the nonIC vs 74 with the IC.

didn't see your post Richie. I never really knew that they had a different pump, but my friend that works at Billings Diesel told me he had a few rotaries out back left over from some repowers. He was looking at my utility truck with the screwed up pump (that I'm changing now actually) and said that my pump was much smaller looking than the 230hp B series they had at the shop, and he doubted they would be swap right over. I'm sure they didn't have an AFC housing on them also as most industrial engines don't.

So, I'm betting this different rotary pump was the Lucas CAV. Never heard of them before you mentioned them though.

Nippondenso also made pumps for some OEM apps of the Cummins.
