What kind of Snow Tires
Since I have a 2 wd truck, I am wondering what would be the best setup for winter driving in snow etc.
I would like to stay away from chains as much as possible.

I ran studs last year (free Zamboni take-offs) and had to pull almost all the studs at the end of stud season. Towards the end of stud season I was TRYING to rip them out with the torque...

x2, but there is no substitute for a real snow tire such as the blizzaks. The most important factor is how well the treads clean them self's out. tires filled with now have no traction.
El Dorado ZTR are an excellent snow-tread.
Hard to beat ice-studs, but also getting harder to find tires with the necessary holes.
Also getting hard to find places that will even put in the studs.
Radial tires have problems with studs that the good old timey bias tires didn't have, such as the studs working their way through the casing, thus causing millions of leaks.
A GOOD, easy to install, set of chains are real good insurance for emergencies.
Pile as much weight as far behind the axle as possible, the more the better.

I run the same (gnarly) tires year round. Snow is very little trouble in 4wd. Stopping on ice is never an easy proposition.
My big problem around the farm is the darned Spring and Fall mud!
