Guess I'm just simple.

FNJ - Your wife's truck is probably idling slower than yours, that's why the extra vibration. Does your truck have a Gatorback or Poly-Cog belt? It's rare for an automatic with a plain belt not to chirp. 5 speed trucks almost never chirp because of the heavy flywheel.

Mine chirps/shakes pretty bad sometimes....sighhhh...I guess i don`t have the timing cranked far enough . My pass seat hing was busted when i got the truck, boy did it shake something horrible just driving down the road. I used a piece of piano hinge and made my own, cost $13.00 bucks and a little cutting and welding.

Why do they shake?
All that mine does is the cummins Chirp then stops dead.
Is it the engine running on or is it all of the sheetmetal shaking?
Does it have something to do with the transmission being auto or manual?
Thinking the torque converter would help load the engine as it stops.
Jim
It shakes because of the high compression stop the engine fast.

Heck, don't intend to get rid of it soon, so yes, probably.

And yes Mrs 92DIESEL still thinks Dave looks like an axe murderer- but she likes him now And he can stay at my place anytime

That would be a good reason to pratice/learn welding. As for the axe murderer, ummm just hide any sharp objects before he shows up. Ummm did your wife just recently increase your life insurance? If not can I take a policy out on ya!

Thanks but I don't think I need to hide any sharp object (he has plenty of guns )
And no life insurance that I know of

The wet dog shakes can usually be cured by raising the idle a tad and bringing up the timing as well...this will give you a pretty much instant stop on shutdown...it does for me...

Since this thread I have been paying a little more attention to the way my Cummins goes to sleep, It "kicks" about twice, but the odd thing, I have never changed a belt, 45K since I owned it, and it does not chirp. It hasn't the last week since I been taken mentals notes, except maybe once or twice. Really odd, it doesn't squeak when running either. So it still grips good.

I have the idle set at 800 rpm (which is already too high for my liking) and the timing advance is maxxed out, so no help from that quarter. Right now I think the shake is probably at the collie level. It's not quite at the St Bernard level, or the Newfie level, so I guess it could be worse.

my drivers door was loose, too when I bought it. I still haven't had the door repaired because they said it would be cheaper to replace the door then for them to take it off, weld it, and then install new hinges. i think he's full of crap (autobody man). I think I can have it welded while its on and still keep the door. soon as i find someone who will do it i 'll get it done! happy shaking!
