welding my frame question
welding my frame question
after discovering some excessive rust on my frame i decided to plate the sides of it. i only have a 110v mig so i cant go to thick. the worst part is back by the shackle hanger it is solid just thin. I was planning on using 3/16" plate
on the sides where the frame goes wider, after the wheel well i was going to use 1/8" because it isnt bad at all. Across the bottom from bumper to the cab i am going to plate it with 3/16" the worst part is where the fuel tank mounted. its pretty bad...
what does everybody thick about the size plating I want to use.

I don't think you will have any problem with 3/16 as
long as the metal is good around that area.
I took 22" out of my frame, put it back together
with 3/8 plate.
Another member, Morse did the same as me took
22" out, used 3/16 to put together.

any suggestions on welding it on?? was thinking about drilling a hole with a hole saw every so often that way i could weld the center of the plate to the frame instead of just the outside edges... but i am going to be bolting on frame brackets so that would probably hold it...
just thinking out loud...
