waste gate, what psi ?
waste gate, what psi ?
When I first bought my truck I installed a banks 14cm wg housing. I disconnected the wg because it wasn't set properly and I was only making 19 psi at the time. With the upgrades I've done so far I'm around 24-25 psi now. My future upgrades are 4" DP, stage lll or lV, and 190s. I'm thinking I'll be making around 30psi. What should I set my wg at when towing? Does a boost controler allow you to adjust back and forth without messing with the wg? I'm not quite sure a bc works.
Thanks
Thanks
i have my 12cm wg and i have it gated at 35psi. and i make sure not to hit it until it is fully warmed up. you would be perfectly fine gating it at 30psi. they adjustable elbow does allow you to change it with just a smalle adjustment. mine is a small allen.
The banks waste gate is a bit more complicated to adjust, once I set it I'd like to leave it alone. I was thinking around 30 psi also but wasn't sure. Does'nt a boost controller give you the options to change wg settings somehow, like something you adjust, turn on an off etc.?
all a boost controller does is fool the wastegate, also called a boost fooler. all it does is regulates the outlet pressure. let's say that the WG opens at 20psi, with a boost fooler the WG still opens when it recieves 20psi, the fooler just allows that 20psi through when the actual boost is higher. i hope this is making some sence. when you have a fooler, there is no more need to mess with the WG, just a simple adjustment on the fooler.

So basiclly your saying if I want to tow I can adjust for a lower wg pressure or if I want to play I can raise it through the contoller. Thanks

The way the boost controller works is it has a ball bearing under a spring which sits over the hole connected to the manifold. By increasing the spring pressure you increase the amount of manifold pressure necessary to get through to the W/G actuator. If you look closely you'll also see a tiny hole in the W/G side of the line which allows the air on the W/G side to bleed off when you get off the go pedal. Otherwise the W/G would always be open. Look for them on Ebay. The last time I looked the one I have was selling for $5.95.
