Warmer Weather = Higher EGT ?????

Since about 2 weeks ago it seems like my egt will climb to 1200 degrees with a heavy foot running through the gears. I can't remember what the numbers were before this, but they were lower. I was wondering if the outside air temp really had that much to do with raising the egt that much. I'd hate to see me pull a trailer now. I might need to screw with my timing a little, sounds like I should advance it a little. What do you think? And, my air filter is clean.

Yea warmer weather will do that... think about it... warmer air is now going into the engine.... Just like with a gas engine, they run better in the cold.. cold= more power

Advance the timing a little to lower egt's..

1200 is not much to worry about as long as its PRE turbo.

As the air gets warmer it loses density, and oxygen. Your IP does not know this and still injects the same amount of fuel for a given psi... so EGT's will go up.

What you guys are saying, makes sense. I'm pre-turbo. Thanks for the input; was about to get a little worried.

any motor, whether gas or diesel likes cold air. cold air is dense, thus, there are more oxygen molecules for the fuel to ignite with.

My non-ic doesn't hardy hit that towing a good load in this hot weather. Are you still running a stock down pipe? My truck benefited a lot from a 4" down pipe and a big air filter with no air box.

I've got a 3.5" aftermarket dp going 3.5" all the way to the 5" stacks.
