Wait To Start Light Question
89 model. I bought the truck 5 years ago & it starts instantly with the first revolution of the starter motor every time. I have never seen the wait light come on. The bulb is good. Should I be concerned about this? I live in Los Angeles, but it still gets under 40 on cold winter mornings. How cold does it have to get for the light to go on? It always starts just fine.

Re:Wait To Start Light Question
somewhere just under 50* I think is usually when it kicks on. Mine will start if you don't wait for the light to go out, but it shakes and rattles and is generally unhappy for the first minute

If it still starts smooth on cold mornings, that tells me the KSB is doing its job. Check the bulb in the message center and see if that is your problem. If the bulb is good, check the intake sensor on top of the intake manifold. Make sure connections are good and tight.

Isn't there a post on here somewhere that says back in '89 the grids did not come on until it was REALLY cold (below the later models' 50 deg threshold, like in the thirties)?

If it isn't broke, don't fix it . . .

In the older ones the grid heater did not come on until around 38*. The newer first gens they changed that to around 58*. I think the breaking point was at 91.5 when they introduced the Intercooler and computer, but I might be wrong. Bill

Re:Wait To Start Light Question
If it "Never" comes on, check your connections. There is a diagnostic self check every time you turn the key on. You should see the "Wait to start" and "Water in fuel" lights for a few seconds whenever you turn the key on.
I keep looking for those every time I borrow Dads Roadmaster. Haven't seen them yet. :
