Unhappy W250 Tie Rod Sleeve

OK, here's my problem. My tie rod ends need to be replaced, but I can't get them out of the existing sleeve. I've tried everything from brute force, to an oil bath, to heating with a torch. Nothing will get these ends to even budge.

So I moved on to try and replace the sleeve as well. Apparently nobody, not NAPA, Advanced, or even Dodge can get the sleeves anymore. And none of the junk yards in the area seem to have a sleeve I can buy either.

Does anyone either have any suggestions, either on how to get the existing tie rod apart, or a part number or something to get a new sleeve? I'm getting desperate here.

Dodge # is 4031 960. The online Dodge parts sites are showing it as available. Try Dodge again, but with the part number.

Auber,
I just ordered a tie rod sleeve from NAPA, based on some Moog part #'s posted by Logan here. Moog # DS1411S, which is NAPA part # NCP
2696040

Don't go this route, as I found out today that the tie rod mentioned above doesn't fit! NAPA part #NCP 2696040 is about 1/8" small in the ID (inside diameter), and the threading is wrong for the ball joints - coarse, instead of fine thread. Sooo, it looks as if I will have to swing by Dodge, and get the part # which Wanna posted in this thread. Maybe NAPA boxed the wrong tie rod in the correct box? I doubt it though.

i did mine and they were rusted solid, i just hammerd around the tie rod sleeve where the tierod goes into, heated it up for a bit, lots of penetrating lube, and then stuck the sleeve in the vise and used a pipe wrench on the tie rod end with a pipe on the end of that and it came loose, and trust me the salt water here kills that stuff, but just take ur time, a real machanic fixes things, dosent replace them inless there broken.

Heat and penatrating fluid does work with breaking these apart. The trick is to get a adjustment sleeve wrench(don't what else to call it). With these tools, it actually speads the sleeve, rather then compressing it.

Here is a tool that you can get: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog

I don't know if this the right size right now, but will look next week when I am back at work. I use Snap On cause it is easy to search online. They are available from lots of different companies.

If you can get it off one end and get it in the vice, put the tie rod end in, and use the tool and a little force and break it free.

The only time I have replaced an adjustment sleeve is when the threads are stripped.

If I were replacing this, I would get this: JCR Rock Rods

No need to retain that stock crush sleeve junk.
