That is weird usually the cast housing will break before the tube. I'm with Nick, something happened to the housing in the past.

I also agree with PapeCat, it easily could of had previous damage and was patched / re welded with when that funny extra tab was put on.
Good eye Deerecountry.
That is some pretty different routing for the exhaust and muffler placement as well.

I think it'd be a mistake to spend huge on a custom replacement for something that shouldn't break in the first place.
I dig it. I'd like to see how it gets from the turbo to there.

I put a 35 gallon tank inside passenger side frame, close to 70 gallons, a place in san Bernardino does truck alignments on straight tube axles, jigged it in a frame press to increase camber, that might have been part of what compromised the tube, just hard to believe that 1/2" thick tube could break, I did break a steel wheel in moab Utah, going up a climb, a rock jarred loose from side of trail into right front, running low pressure, it folded the bead lip to inside of rim. when I bought the truck in '03, I was looking for manual trans, posi rear, and diesel, this truck was a salvage title from previous owner, steered to miss an animal crossing roadway, turned down the embankment and hit a drainage culvert, and tore the drivers side leaf spring perch off the frame. insurance totaled the truck, when I went to get it, they had it on jack stands on a steel plate with slope of hill, made it like it was sitting on ice, had to use my trailer winch, and comealong to keep it positioned to get trailer under it with floor jack rolling it on. you can pick from one or all of those scenarios, that faulted the failure, I decided to put it back together when I found all the parts I needed, put the camper and bike on it, that summer my mission was to hit the 100 year anniversary for Harley Davidson in Milwaukee, we did 12,000 miles in 7 weeks.
