Vexing VE problem
I had my pump rebut a year ago. It worked fine. I replaced the cold start solenoid a couple of months ago and the idle went up about 500 rpm. I adjusted the idle but it takes a heck of a return spring to bring it down. It "catches" at high idle on the way down. Anyone been down this road?
Sounds kinda like someone cranked your fuel screw in and she's real close to runaway. Odd
It sounds like your governor is hanging. I don't quite see how or why replacing the ksb would do something like that. I've been into my pump more than most but I'm far far from a pump expert.

The ole 92 I bought a while back had problems is why it became up for sale. When I first looked at it the previous owner had just put a 3200 rpm gov spring in it and turned the fuel screw 1 1/2 turns and it ran so so. Then it went to acting up. The guy decided to spend no more on it so it was for sale. The first time I drove it the idle was high and like you say it took alot of spring to get it back to normal. The day I bought it I drive down the hiway and it would rev up drop down ect. I could pull the linkage hard and idle it down but rev it up and again have to strong arm it to idle. Alot of good guys on here thru out good ideas as to what the problem was. Pulled pump down and the gov drive rubber bushings were gone. So check your gov spring and make sure it's not messed up, while checking see if the gear on the gov is snug and not sloppy. Also ck the fuel screw as stated above it may be almost on runaway. Anyway this is just another idea of what may be going on. Good luck!!
Thanks guys; I pulled off all the springs and linkages and then the tps - and the tps was the culprit. The tps operates freely, but when bolted down, it binds the throttle shaft. I can't leave it loose, so I've got to find why the throttle shaft is sticking up too high or make a thick gasket for the tps.
The button that drives the tps has a raised tab that rides in a slot in the steel bracket. When I reassembled the pump and installed it, I had misaligned that button so that the tab was not in the slot but was riding on the steel bracket causing the bind! I realigned it, reinstalled the tps and voila! Throttle works smoothly and properly for the first time in a year!
Thanks, and thanks for your advice. I'm looking at a 96 4WD tomorrow with 200k, same as my 93. Too bad it doesn't have a 5 speed. I liked the back seat and the lockup TC on my 95 far better than my 1st gens. And I'm doing some heavy hauling 700 mile trips while I move from Florida to extreme north Alabama.
