Vegie oil ok to run in my truck
Sure but you need a device the will warm up the veggie oil to get it hot. I know of a guy built a block out of Alum. ran the oil through that and used Glow plugs to warm up the veggie oil. The glow will not burn out because there is a resistance in the oil.
In the middle of summer I'll run about 30-40% filtered (1 micron), dewatered SVO in my fuel tank. Keep spare filter on deck and a 17mm wrench for your injector lines just in case. No problems yet but I'm super vigilant with my filtering/dewatering. I've gone as high as 50% with no issues. As long as ambient temps are above 50 degrees you should be ok.
Yes you can, but theres more to it than just pouring it in your tank. Used oil has to be processed. There is food particle's,fats, hydrogonated oils and water in it. This all needs to be removed first. Once you have done this the debate starts....you can heat the oil before it hits the IP this is concidered SVO or you can "blend" with a petroluim product.

I do both biodiesel and blend. I run bio in the winter and blend in the summer.

I'll never run it again. I toasted an injection pump. I found out later that veggie oil can suspend water that will fall out later when mixed with diesel. I only ran a <5% blend (1 gallon in with 20+ gallons of diesel) to boot, less than 1 tank and I lost my pump. I filtered it and everything before I used it, but didn't test for water good enough I guess.
Later I did tests in clear bottles with the same and different oils. Some I heated up and let settle and no water fell out. As soon as diesel was added to the stuff I used, the water dropped out!! I would be very very very careful. Rotary pumps rely on the diesel as lubrication of the whole thing!!! Unlike a P pump or a Mercedes diesel which use engine oil for the cams, bearings, etc.

It's anyone's choice. If you have a spare vehicle, or you don't depend on your truck for work, good. When you weigh your job on your truck being up and running, that's a risk that each individual should take. I've sadly seen some nice old diesels in the junkyard with toasted injection pumps from running WVO/SVO improperly.
I know I'll never do it again, I will put forth the effort to make biodiesel instead. It's characteristics are much closer to pump diesel, and it can even be bought or made to ASTM specs.
