Ve vs p pump
I'm with RonA, IMO it would be a P-Pumped 1st gen.
The VIN, and other corresponding number ID, would be for a diesel Dodge from 1989-1993 in order to quantify it as a 1st gen.
All else is just arguing for no real gain.
Mark.

I consider this body style 72-93 a first gen ram regardless of engine. Some day I would like to have a 24v P-pump, 6 speed, Dana 80 out back and a coil sprung 60 up front all rapped in a first gen. I wouldn't necessarily count that out as a first gen just a highly modded one. It's the body not the engine they came with gas motors too.
I always thought 1stgen referred to the body style not the engine. In my opinion ppump no harm no foul. I dont run one but I dont need one. Mine will be and is a daily driver and 300 hp tops. But if I was shooting for anything over 350 hp I would do it in a minute.
I have done many a many tests on this exact issue.

Couldn't agree more
300rwhp is dead easy with a VE, but 400-450 isn't that much harder with a good turbo and big injectors. You're going to spend just as much on a p-pump swap as you are on the parts for the 450rwhp VE.
And a street truck at 450rwhp is no joke!
