Ve vs p pump
I always thought 1stgen referred to the body style not the engine. In my opinion ppump no harm no foul. I dont run one but I dont need one. Mine will be and is a daily driver and 300 hp tops. But if I was shooting for anything over 350 hp I would do it in a minute.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Personally, to me a 1st Gen is a 1989-1993 Dodge Ram equipped with a Cummins Turbo Diesel with a VE injection pump. I don't care if it has a compound turbo set up, an NV4500, a Dana 80 or whatever else, as long as it meets the criteria in my first sentence it's a 1st Gen. Otherwise it's not. All my personal opinion of course.
The way I see it, the first gen is split in two areas: 1st and 2nd Gen Truck and 1st and 2nd Gen Engine. To me a '92 with a p-pump would be a 1st Gen Truck with a 2nd Gen Engine.... Oh, and the VP44 24v is in it's own category, but I won't get into that....

I consider 1st gen 1972-1993. They obviously had many gas engines during this time as well as the Mitsubishi diesel in 77.
The guys who dyno a lot discredit or don't compare their HP numbers to a first gen whom is P pumped. So that's where the discrepancy and saying came from is my guess.
