VE guru's come inside! Technical questions...

I'm looking into doing a pump build for my Turbo diesel volvo (also a 12v straight six with ve pump). I'm going to be building a franken pump for it, and was wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head what the lift for the stock cummins cam plate is. I know there is a 4mm version, but that may be too much. I may just go all the way and do a 12mm head swap on to my pump, but I don't know where to buy one. The local diesel pump shop doesn't even want to sell me one unless they are rebuilding my pump.

Thanks for any help.

Jason

IIRC, the Dodge plate is 3 mm lift as are most of the others.
Can you just slap a Dodge head and rotor on it? I would bet that would get you bigger DV's too.

Yep, the 12mm head will work, the stock pump is a 10mm head so its got the larger 20mm shaft. I'm not sure if the DVs are different or not, but I would just swap the whole works. The cam plate for the VW ve pumps is 2.3mm so just the cam plate would probably help, but I don't know if thats going to be enough.

I would like to get a new H&R or a pump to steel one out of, but I haven't come across any cheap just to tear apart, and as I said haven't found a source for just the head. The engine is a 2.4 liter so a 12mm head will be MORE than enough fuel. I'm hoping to make 250hp to the wheels.

Theres a quick video of it... Its like a mini cummins! I really have too much fun blowing smoke on the local diesel truck guys. The sound of it is what really makes it though.

Oh ya its a tank. Not bothering with the waste of time auto trans. I have a manual I'm in the process of swapping in. If you couldn't guess, not a huge aftermarket for Volvo diesels. I'm sending the clutch out to Southbend for them to rebuild the stock pressure plate for more clamping force and they are going to build me a disc using the stock center. With a 5 speed putting all the power to the ground it should be a hell of alot faster anyway. That stock torque converter is worthless!!!

That would be a nice upgrade by itself if I cant get ahold of a cheap pump or just the head and rotor. I did some digging and turns out mine is actually 2.2mm so less then I thought.

Anyone know a source for the stock head and rotor?

I had forgot about them, I knew they did the 14mm head but didn't know they had the stock stuff too.

I called, a 12mm H&R is $280 and the stock 2.8mm lift cam plate is $80.

ad removed I'll probably end up getting this stuff soon from them.
